AUGUST 2009 NEWSLETTER

Welcome again, 6918th Security Squadron members, to the August 2009 Newsletter.  I do not know how time passes so quickly, but it does, and here it is again time for our next reunion.  Most of the plans are complete except for a few details that we will talk about now.

The business that needs to be addressed within the next two weeks:

If you are attending and have not yet reserved your room, do it now.

If you are attending and have not yet registered with Bill, do it now.

If you are attending and have special needs, let us or the hotel know now.

If you are attending, email to sfreymuth@charter.net   the following for name tags:

                  Name.

                  Wife or attending friends’ name.

                  Years at 6918th, Japan.  i.e.1966-1968

Nickname if you want it on nametag.

MOS if you want it on nametag i.e. 292 or 202 or 203

Picture of you from 6918th era (2007 attendees, we have yours).

Please send these ASAP as Linda has begun nametag work.

If you are not attending, you will be missed.  Your ears will ring because you will be lovingly talked about.  However, if you have not already done it, let us know that you not going to be there for sure.

If you are not attending and would like a note from you to be read at the banquet program, send it to Dave or Stan really quick so we can include it the program planning.

If you change your mind at the last minute, I’m sure we can always make room for one more.

If you care to support the reunion effort, see the website for reunion memorabilia items that are for sale.  100% of the profits go to the reunion effort.  Many expenses are fixed regardless of how many members attend.  If not attending, we will be glad to ship them to you.  If you are attending and wish to purchase now and pick up at the reunion, you save the shipping cost.  Or, of course, you can purchase and pick up at the reunion.  Whichever way you prefer to do it, HELP your organization and place an order!

This is a 6918th Security Squadron reunion, hosted by Dawg Flight, so, Able, Baker, Charlie, Days and Ops, just use the information below for the negotiated rates and room “block”. We not only invite ALL, we encourage ALL 6918th members to attend.  You will enjoy! We already have 40+ members coming, plus their wives, so it will be an enjoyable group.  See the “attendance 2009” on www.6918thhakata.com to see how many of your buddies will be there.  (All represented except Baker Flight, to my knowledge.  Where are you Baker?  We’re not 24/7 anymore.  We’re all on break! Come to St. Louis!)     If you have not attended a reunion since Japan, ask one of your comrades who has, and what he thought of it.  If you have previously attended one, we’ll probably see you at this one.  A lot of things have changed since we left Japan.  Before Sgt. Wilford Jackson died (2007), I asked him why he thought the 6918th group of men bonded so well in Japan.  His answer:  “The 6918th was a group of guys who worked, partied and played sports at 100%.  You did it with great vigor. You became a team of 100% effort individuals who became entwined in each others lives.  I have not seen this camaraderie at any of the other sites I’ve been assigned to!”  Today the bond continues.  Today we have reunions.  As Jack stated, in Japan, as a group, we drank, smoked and did other things at 100% with great vigor.  Today we are forty years older.  Most of us have cut down our effort on most of these endeavors.  If you have chosen to do away with some of these things, so have many of the rest of us.  Do not stay away from the reunion because you feel you will be peer pressured into doing something you no longer do.  At reunions, new memories are formed by renewing past friendships and creating new ones, with more mental clarity.   I know you will enjoy yourself!

6918th Squadron dudes, it’s always a pleasure to chat with you.  Sept 27 will be here before we know it.  Come if you can.  Send a note if you can’t.         Take care, be safe and God bless America and those who protect it.          Stan
